9. The Negative Side of Weight Loss
The reality is that weight loss comes with some sacrifices. But when you focus on what you’re missing, you miss out on what you’re gaining.
In this episode of the High on Life podcast, Dr. High reviews three negatives of weight loss that you need to embrace:
- Short term sacrifice for long term gain
- Feeling the negative feelings without trying to escape them
- And patience (because it will take longer than expected!)
You’ll learn how to reframe these “negatives” into positives so you can enjoy your weight loss journey and be successful longterm.
In this episode we’ll cover:
- You have to keep your eyes on everything you are gaining – rather than what you are missing out on in the moment.
- “Discipline is choosing what you want most over what you want now.” – Craig Groeschel
- Successful weight loss means making conscious choices about your food and deciding when you’re going to indulge, and when you’re going to practise restraint.
- Everyone emotionally eats.
- To stop emotional eating, you have to feel your feelings instead of escaping them with food.
- Life is 50:50 (50% happy and positive emotions, and 50% sad, disappointed and negative emotions). That is the normal human experience.
- Learning to sit with discomfort is a crucial skill needed to achieve longterm successful weight loss and health.
- Discomfort is the price tag for growth.
- The only problem that food is supposed to solve is physical hunger. When we use food for anything else - it usually does a terrible job and has some negative downstream consequences.
- Weight loss is going to take longer than you expect. Pretty much guaranteed. And that’s okay.
